On July 4, 2008 the winners were pulled for the Truck Fund Summer Raffle. Butch Gunsallus won the lawn package, Jennele Yoho $150 gas card and Terri Babyak $75 gas card. The winner of the CLVFD Auxillary raffle for the Sweet Heart Glider was Doug Wheeler. Special THANKS goes out to Andrew & Sons Equipment and Dillenger's for their willingness to work with the Fire Department to make these raffles a huge success.

U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today announced his plan to help volunteer fire companies cover the rising cost of fuel prices. The Supporting America's Volunteer Emergency Services Act of 2008 (SAVES Act) would establish a grant program under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to be distributed to volunteer fire companies to help them pay to fuel fire trucks. Senator Casey will introduce the SAVES Act when Senate goes back into session next week. Conneaut Lake Volunteeer Fire Department (Dept 7) is truly honored to have been chosen by Senator Casey as a site for this important announcement.

The members of Conneaut Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. and fellow workers at Station 3 would like to send our thoughts and prayers to the family of Lois Shea. Lois was tragically taken from us Monday June 16 as the result of a motor vehicle accident. We will always miss her smile, friendliness and most of all her talent and passion in the food she prepared for the members and guests at Station 3. Lois was called home to be with the Lord on Monday and she will be greatly missed by family, friends and co-workers. You can be sure they are eating well in Heaven!! May you rest in peace. Following is excerpts from her obituary that appeared in the Meadville Tribune Wednesday June 18, 2008. Lois A. Shea, 70, of 12546 State Highway 285, Conneaut Lake, died Monday, June 16, 2008, following an automobile accident in the borough of Conneaut Lake. Born in Oil City Dec. 10, 1937, she was a daughter of Sam and Mary Mailliard Bowman. She married Kenneth F. Shea April 14, 1984. She was employed as a cook for Conneaut Lake Volunteer Fire Department Station 3. She was of the Methodist faith. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, had a strong interest in major crossword puzzles in the Pittsburgh paper, and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. She was a 1955 graduate of Meadville High School. Survivors, in addition to her husband of 24 years, include three sons, Michael Shade and his wife, Chris, of Guymon, Okla., Keith Shade of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Brian E. Shade of Conneaut Lake; a daughter, Judy Schoening and her husband, Corey, of Meadville; two stepsons, Kenneth Shea and his wife, Darcy, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Daniel Shea and his wife, Beverly, of Saegertown; two stepdaughters, Adele Gruber of Meadville, and Kerri Matelske and her husband, David, of Las Vegas; a brother, Ralph Bowman and his wife, Vernetta, of Cynthiana, Ky.; a sister, Alice Flickinger and her husband, Melvin, of Warren, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Brian, Kyle and Corey Shade, Brandon Hedrick, Joshua, Jacob, Jason and Jolene Shea, Dana and Erin Gruber, and Ashley Matelske; and three great-grandchildren.

Department 7 was dispatched to assist Department 40-Greenwood at the scene of a one vehicle accident with reported injury, entrapment and fire. The windshield was removed and three sided cut to roof to remove patients.

JOINT DRILL WITH DEPARTMENT 45-EAST FALLOWFIELD

Joint drill was held with Department 7 & Department 45 at a vacant home on RT 18 in Atlantic. Proper techniques were covered in the use of ladders and hoisting tools to the roof. Several teams conducted search and rescue inside the building which was "extremely" smoked up.

Congratulations to Ray Brenoel of Cochranton, Pa. Ray is the winner of the 2007 Honda FourTrax Rancher 4X4ES. Ray's name was pulled at our annual gun raffle held on March 8, 2008. Special thanks to Street Track 'n Trail of Conneaut Lake for furnishing the Honda Rancher.

Pine Twp Firefighter Succumbs to Inuries 3/5/2008 The members of Conneaut Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. would like to send our thoughts and prayers to the Holmes family and the Pine Twp. Engine Co. Firefigther Brad Holmes died early March 5, 2008 at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. Firefighter Holmes was severely burned while fighting a house fire with entrapment in Grove City on February 29, 2008. There is a fund set up at North West Savings Bank at 200 S. Center Street Grove City, PA 16127 ATTN: FF Brad Holmes. Your support is greatly appreciated.
