LIFE STAR HELICOPTER LZ TRAINING

Training was provided by Life Star on landing zone and emergency procedures should a helicopter develop it's own emergency situation. On the ground rescue procedures, shutdown and evacuation procedures were covered. Classroom training was held at Conneaut Lake Area Ambulance Service building.

It is with deepest sympathy Department  7 has lost a friend and volunteer. Arnold  Ecklund worked bingo for the Conneaut Lake VFD Relief Association tirelessly for many years. We have truly lost a dear friend. Following is his obituary as printed in the Meadville Tribune. Goodby dear friend.

CONNEAUT LAKE — Arnold V. Ecklund, 83, of 12109 Monnie Ave., Conneaut Lake, died Friday, May 8, 2009, at his residence.He was born Feb. 19, 1926, in Clymer, N.Y., a son of the late Arnold and Clara Tobias Ecklund. He married Betty Kay Hepler on May 27, 1955. She survives.A 1946 graduate of Curwensville High School, Ecklund then attended Indiana State College where he graduated in 1950. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving in World War II. He taught in a one-room school from 1951 to '52 in Clearfield County. He began teaching biology at Conneaut Lake in 1952, retiring in 1982. He was a tax collector for Sadsbury Township for 32 years.He was a member of Fifth Street Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and on the building and grounds committee. He had been past commander of American Legion Post 587, Conneaut Lake, and served as its adjutant for 40-plus years. He was a member of the Shady Dock association and served as the treasurer. For more than 30 years, he was the man to call for getting things done at Shontz Library: "Call Arnold." He was a volunteer for the East Side Fire Department bingo games for many years. He served on the board for Conneaut Lake Ambulance and was past president. Other interests included reading, golfing, sailing, swimming and gardening. He enjoyed spending quality time with family, friends and his grandchildren.Survivors, in addition to his wife, Betty, of 55 years; include two daughters, Lynn Espin and her husband, Mark, of Warren, and Jeannie DeCray and her husband, Tate, of Ellicott City, Md.; a son, Andrew Ecklund and his friend, Jodi, of Tallmadge, Ohio; and four grandchildren, David, Brian and Lara Espin, and Luke DeCray.He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Kay Ecklund, May 1, 1963.He was an unfailingly kind and considerate person to his family and to all who knew him.Calling hours are Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Dickson Funeral Home at Conneaut Lake.The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. William Mills, pastor of Fifth Street Presbyterian Church, officiating.Interment will take place in Foust Cemetery, Conneaut Lake.

Department 7 was dispatched for a one vehicle accident with entrapment in Greenwood Township on Route 285. It appears that the vehicle entered a drainage ditch, went airborne over a driveway and landed in another drainage ditch. Unit 708 responded.


 
   
   
ASSIST DEPARTMENT 45 STRUCTURE FIRE

Department 7 was dispatched for a full assist to Fallowfield VFD for a working structure fire. Original dispatch stated possibility of entrapment. All residents were found to have exited. Units 702, 703, 708 and 714 responded.

Department 7 was dispatched to assist Department 45 at the scene of a 2 vehicle accident with entrapment. Removal of the roof was required.


 
   
   
ICE RESCUE TRAINING
Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Drill for Tuesday 2/11 was conducted on the frozen Conneaut Lake. Department firefighters practiced rescue of a person that had fallen through the ice. Department divers practiced with their dry suits while others wore cold water rescue suits.


 
   
   
ASSIST DEPARTMENT 45-STRUCTURE FIRE-

Department 7 was dispatched to assist Department 45 at a working structure fire with reported entrapment. Victims were able to extricate themselves before firefighters arrived. This was a multiple alarm fire causing extensive damage to the structure.


 
   
   
GARBAGE TRUCK VS POLE
Friday, January 30, 2009

Garbage truck struck utility pole causing it to break off. Vehicle traveling behind garbage truck struck downed pole and wires. Units 708, 714 & FP1 responded. Road was closed for several hours for removal of vehicles and replacement of pole.

Department 7 was dispatched for a 1 vehicle accident with injury and entrapment. Vehicle on its side with 1 victim entrapped. Roof was rolled down to extricate victim. Assisting at scene was Conneaut Lake Area Ambulance Service, Pennsylvania State Police, Conneaut Lake Regional Police and STAT helicopter.
